Intellibuddy

Dit is ze dan, de standaard Intellibuddy, die bewegen kan en je trouwhartig aankijkt als je klikt op http://www.intellibuddy.com/. Er staan er nog negen, mannen, vrouwen en kinderen, die je met één klik kunt oproepen om de standaarddame te vervangen. Zij praten niet alleen tegen je, maar ze drukken het gesprokene ook nog af. Discussiëren met je Intellibuddy is simpel en een prima oefening in taalvaardigheid Engels.

Onder de afbeelding een leeg tekstvak met de uitnodiging: Talk now . Dit als reactie op haar vriendelijke groet. Je typt je vraag, haar gesproken reactie komt gelijk met de geschreven tekst. Jouw tekst wordt afgedrukt achter >you.
Ik heb zonder na te denken een gesprek gevoerd met Intellibuddy in mijn schoolengels uit de periode van Vertaal in goed Nederlands. Toen ik de vrijheid nam om te schrijven I love you, ging ze daar niet op in. Een zeer verstandig meisje dus en om die reden geknipt om onze leerlingen te woord te staan. Dit is het transcript van onze samenspraak:

Geef ze de simpele opdracht om als huiswerk een gesprek aan te gaan met een Intellibuddy naar keus. Als ze tevreden zijn over vraag en antwoord, dan selecteren ze de geschreven dialoog, klikken met de rechtermuisknop in de geselecteerde blauw geworden tekst en kiezen kopiëren. Dan klikken ze op de knop naast het tekstvak: Send to a friend. Ze krijgen onderstaand schema in te vullen. Your friend is de docent(e) Engels. In het vak message plakken ze met de rechter muisknop de geselecteerde tekst.

Ik heb het met mijn tekst geprobeerd en mijn eigen naam en e-mailadres bij your vriend ingevuld en een paar minuten later werd de tekst keurig thuisbezorgd. Dus dat werkt ook. Als de leerlingen voor de verzending de dialoog willen wijzigen of fouten verbeteren, kan dat heel simpel. Alvorens de tekst in het message-tekstvak te plakken, plaatsten ze het even in een tekstverwerker, verbeteren de fouten, kopiëren en plakken de tekst daarna in het message-tekstvak. Omdat docenten niet altijd kunnen weten of de tekst, die ze krijgen toegestuurd, wel van de opgegeven afzender afkomstig is, kunnen ze als vervolgopdracht een leerling met een klasgenoot, die de rol van Intellibuddy op zich neemt, de tekst even laten opzeggen. Uiteraard uit het hoofd!
